Hannan Jones (FKA Hannan Bouchemla) b. Mandjoogoordap on Binjareb Noongar Boodja, Western Australia of Algerian and Welsh origin. Based in Glasgow, Scotland.

I am an artist working in sound, installation, performance and moving image. In my practice, I respond to cultural and social migration by engaging language, rhythm, and origin.

Among current core concepts I am working with are hybridity, worldbuilding, and psychogeography, drawing on the writings of Homi K. Bhabha and Raymond Williams. I adopt a research-based, interdisciplinary approach that allows for creating projects that expand our perspectives and reflect ourselves in our surroundings; to find moments of 'togetherness,' if only temporary.

Beginnings are commonly found within the sonic sphere, through sampling techniques, electronics, music concrete, and analogue recordings. I use samples and layers of audio materials to create alternate possibilities, reclaim parallel histories, and reimagine connections as a starting point. These processes are inspired by pioneers such as Nicolas Collins, BBC Radiophonic Workshop, and Éliane Radigue.

Previous group presentations and performances include Counterflows, CCA, Glasgow (2022); Sonica 2022, Civic Room, Glasgow; DADAA, Fremantle, Australia (2020); NTS Tate Lates, Tate Modern, London (2017); REWIRE, The Hague (2017); Sound Thought, CCA, Glasgow (2017) and Gallery Unit, Glasgow International (2016). Music releases have been both self-released and on Weaponise Your Sound and Optimo Music.

In 2021, I programmed alongside Dardishi Film Festival, Glasgow and as part of my time from 2020-21 as an Associate at Open School East in Margate, Kent. I have received awards and support from A/C Projects; Arts Council England; Sound and Music UK and the Ian Potter Cultural Trust.  At present, I am a Commitee Member / Co-Director at Transmission Gallery.
