CV of
HANNAN JONES
FKA Hannan Bouchemla
Born on Whadjuk Noongar boodja (Perth) to Algerian and British parents.
I am an interdisciplinary artist who holds open arms towards experimental collaborations and cross-disciplinary approaches. I explore themes through language, rhythm, cultural and social migration using installation, score, video, live performance and music.
I have worked in roles of facilitation and programming in both professional institutions and in self-organised pursuits. As a result of this, I have pursued projects outside of traditional spaces for art and focussed instead on engaging with public space.
Recent projects include the retracing of free speech movements, celebrating non-verbal language in club environments, founding and running a public-facing gallery and open studio in an indoor market shopping centre, programming public screenings in the pursuit of finding cross-over in narratives and archival materials between invited artists and organisations, and bus tours exploring parallel histories in personal recollections.
My practice advocates to create collaborative and community projects, events and artworks that enables space for expanding our perspectives and reflecting ourselves in our surroundings, as an attempt to find moments for ‘togetherness’, if only temporary. Currently, I am reclaiming my practice specifically exploring personal and collective histories and speculative futures.
Currently based between Margate, KENT and Glasgow, SCOTLAND.
